Overview

Joseph W. Carey is an attorney in the Orlando office of Roig Lawyers.

Joseph concentrates his practice in the areas of first and third party matters. The identification and investigation of fraudulent claims represents a significant portion of Joe’s practice. Over the last 20 years, Joseph has handled various types of insurance defense cases, focusing on high exposure automobile negligence and premises liability cases.

Joseph has also tried 20 jury trials, 10 bench trials and has handled hundreds of EUOs involving fraud/SIU as well as EUOs related to claims involving theft and fire loss. He also defends clients in cases involving premises liability, professional liability, construction defects, medical & healthcare malpractice, commercial/corporate disputes and products liability. He has also served as a fee expert.

Joseph is certified by the Florida Department of Financial Services as a continuing education instructor. He has presented courses on various insurance defense topics including SIU Investigations, Homeowners Insurance Fraud, Negotiation and Settlement, Filing a Proposal for Settlement, Fraud in the Medical Records, Personal Injury Protection law, Fraud/Special Investigation, Bad Faith, Resolution of Low Limit Multi-Party Claims and Personal Injury Protection.

Joseph was born in Buffalo, New York but has resided in Florida for the past 19 years. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in 1993 from Canisius College and his MBA in 1994, also from Canisius College. Joseph earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami School of Law in 1997.

Joseph is very active in the community and has participated in many charitable events such as Habitat for Humanities, Toys for Tots, American Cancer Society and Make a Wish Foundation. Joseph also served as the President of the Coconut Grove Jaycees in 2004 and served as Metro Legal Counsel for the U.S. Metro Jaycees in 2003 (serving as legal counsel for all large city chapters in the United States).
