June 1, 2015

Roig Lawyers, a minority-owned multi-practice litigation law firm dedicated to serving clients across six offices throughout Florida, is pleased to announce that Edward “Ed” J. Carbone will speak at the 19th Annual Florida Liability Claims Conference (FLCC) at Disney’s Contemporary Resort June 3—6 2015.

Ed will present “Medical Malpractice Update—Patient Safety Organizations, Hospital Liability, and Causation” on June 5 at the conference. The presentation will update attendees on the latest developments in medical malpractice law. The course will focus on four main areas: 1) the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act (PSQIA) and its impact on Amendment 7 requests in Florida, 2) the latest theories advanced to hold hospitals responsible for the negligence of practitioners, 3) the 2014 Supreme Court decision of Saunders v. Dickens and its impact on the law of causation in the context of medical malpractice cases, and 4) recent appellate decisions affecting medical malpractice claims.

The 2015 FLCC is presented by the Florida Liability Claims Institute in cooperation with the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (FDLA). Roig Lawyers is a proud sponsor of the conference where attendees are exposed to cutting edge CLE. The conference provides interaction with claims professionals and defense attorneys.

Ed primarily represents hospitals, physicians, hospices, and other healthcare providers. As a litigator, he defends providers against claims for medical malpractice, general negligence, billing and collections issues, and other claims, both at trial and on appeal. He has significant experience handling birth injury claims, including disputes over the applicability of Florida’s Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA) no-fault compensation program for birth-related neurological injuries.
