Jessica Z. Martin of Roig Lawyers Recognized as one of the 2014 March of Dimes Women of Distinction

September 10, 2014

Roig Lawyers, a minority-owned multi-practice litigation law firm dedicated to serving clients across seven offices throughout Florida, is proud to announce that Jessica Z. Martin, partner in the Deerfield Beach office, is a 2014 March of Dimes Women of Distinction honoree.

The 19th Annual March of Dimes Women of Distinction has held a tradition of recognizing women who have the ability to effect change. They recognize the present and future innovators, influencers, and entrepreneurs. This is a multi-generational gathering of leaders who forge partnerships, find solutions, and make the Broward community a better place to live.

Jessica will be honored at the March of Dimes Women of Distinction event on December 11, 2014.

Jessica concentrates her practice in the areas of Personal Injury Protection (PIP)/No-Fault litigation and fraud (SIU) investigations. She also defends clients in cases involving bodily injury and uninsured motorists.

The identification and investigation of fraudulent claims represent a significant portion of Jessica’s practice. She and her team members scrutinize all documentation available in a case to look for patterns of unnecessary medical treatment, false or forged signatures, fake medical claims, staged accidents, and patient recruiting.

In addition to her own caseload, she manages three teams of attorneys focused on complex litigation, and serves on the firm’s management committee.

Jessica became partner in three short years of practicing law in 2009 and under her supervision, the firm established a fraud (SIU) investigations team that uses sophisticated data analytics to identify potential billing fraud in pending litigation matters. By tracking the frequency of medical billing, treatment codes, and known medical staff resources, the team is able to alert carriers when billing patterns indicate the likelihood of fraud.

The fraud (SIU) investigations team is experienced in research involving records maintained by the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, including health care clinic licensing data.

The management of high-volume litigation files, numbering in the hundreds or thousands, is a related capability developed within the PIP and fraud (SIU) teams. Jessica’s team members utilize advanced litigation database tools to track cases electronically through all phases of the litigation process, including pleadings, discovery, and motions.

As a skilled trial attorney, Jessica has handled cases in both state and federal court. She is also experienced in the use of alternative dispute resolution techniques, including mediation and arbitration, as a means of litigation avoidance.

The Florida Department of Financial Services has approved Jessica to teach continuing education courses for insurance agents and insurance agencies.

Jessica is a graduate of the University of Florida (B.A., 2002) and the University of Florida Levin School of Law (J.D., 2005).
